Night flow rate

Hello all,

I was wondering if the tank flow rate should be adjusted down at night. In other words, do you guys set power head schedules to reduce flow after the lights go out, or does time of day/light schedule not come in to play when setting up flow?

I can't say if it's right or wrong, but I don't change my settings between night or day. The ocean currents don't change, so why should my tank is my reasoning.

I am interested to see where this goes. However we imitate the ocean as much as possible and I understand the tide changes but do the currents change, my tank is set up such that there is minimal directional flow, on a 24/7 basis and has worked well for me KISS

I see the most poly extension at night so I don't see why I would want to change anything. I think the ocean might slow down a little at night just because the sun is not driving the weather as much, and the waves, but the difference is minimal and I would not try to replicate it. The ocean also has warm and cold days but we do not try to replicate those either. I wouldn't say we try to replicate nature, we try to create an idealized version of nature rather than a natural one.

The most important thing is that proper surface gas exchange is maintained always. Beyond that, I have run tanks with a 'night mode' and tanks without. Doesn't seem to be the key determiner of success :)
