Night Mode Question

I have (2) 6200 with a controller. I have the unit alternate the flow left and right at 100% while the other is at 30%. But, when the unit is on "night mode" should the % indicator bars on the controller show less? Inotherwords, not the alternating 100% and 30%. The reason I ask is because at night with the night mode on the % flow indicators do not change from the day flow.

Thanks

At night the pulsing stops and the pumps run at whatever the bottom knob is set to, so if that is 100% they run at 100%.

I have a Tunze 6000 w/controller....Is there really a good reason to put it on night mode??? The ocean doesen't get any calmer at night & aren't we trying to mimic the fishes natural enviroment????

OK now I am confused. I turned the bottom knobs and the current flow rate changed on the controller. Why would the bottom and the top know change the flow rate. I thought that the top knob for each of the two channels was for day mode, and the bottom lnobs on each of the two channels was for night mode. They, why would the bottom knobs change the flow % during day mode operation?

During the day the pumps pulse, top to bottom, at the rate you set with the pulse knobs. At night pulsing stops and they stay on the bottom knobs. If you turned the pulse knob all the way to off, it will always stay on the bottom knobs.

That’s a very broad statement. The ocean is not generally calmer at night. Maybe in certain areas but I can assure you that I have dived on a lot of nights when the current is in fact a lot stronger during the night than day.

It would all be based on weather patterns and possible different regions. IMO stronger water movement during the night is more important in an aquarium as it will allow for better co2 exchange.

It is a broad statement but in general, during high tide the sea is calmer, the rocks and jeddies that create the majority of turbulence and chop are then submerged and this tends to calm the flow.

Without getting too off topic, either, when fish sleep in the ocean, they usually find a deep dark crack in the reef, far away from the currents on the reef edge. In our tanks, there is no such place, as the flow is contant and (hopefully) chaotic. So reducing the flow at night will allow the fish a better chance to rest when they are sleeping.

:eek1: You have opened my eyes to see the light....What you said makes a lot of sense....I will set my Tunze on "night mode".....Thanks!!!
