night time pump cycle

does anyone turn off there close loop pumps/tunze or what ever you have for flow in your tank at night?(not your return pumps from the sump/fug)

i'm thinking just like the ocean is calmer at night, shouldn't our tanks also be the same. i'm not say have no water movement but cut it back from what it's like during the day/light cycle.

I've been turning off my close loop pump at night and my growth has been consisten with the pump on or off.

growth and color are great

what's your thought on this?

Only the surface may be calmer due to the winds dying down. Currents / tides are affected by the moon and occur day and night. (I have been fishing at night with the current ripping every bit as strong as is does during the day)

plus at night O2 drops in our tanks as photosynthesis halts, so water motion is needed even more.

O2 shouldn't be a big issue. i'm still turning over 6x tank volume. i just shut down the close loop. all areas of the tank still get plenty of water movement. just not like with the close loop going.

Pumps off

Pumps off

I turn my pumps off that provide current but have my filtration pump 24/7 which keeps things moving a bit in the tank.

and when pumps are off is when calcium carbonate really deposits itself.

and most importantly, nightime is when sps feed the most, and i want them to have the most flow when feeding, and im pretty sure they want the same thing.
