is horrible for me. I have a 75g tank in my room and I cannot sleep with the pump running! It so loud to me. During the day it doesn't bother me, but when im trying to sleep; o boy. So what im thinking of doing is this.

Running the pump only during the day & when i go to sleep it goes off. I will keep all the power heads going and & thats it. Will this have any bad effect on my corals ?

The tank is completely empty right now, its just cycling. But I do plan on keeping SPS, and some fish. The tank is rimless with no top so gas exchange is not really one of my worries.

Hopefully this will be alright, because I need my beauty sleep ! :)

I wouldn't do it, lower the o2 at night (by turning off skimmer? and return pump?) will (I think im correct on this) cause even more of a ph drop at night. but i cant say i completely understand what you are saying. If all else fails spend some real money on a nice quiet pump! :c).

normally i would think
no pump running=no circulation=bad

but you have the power heads so the water will still be in motion

i wouldnt think it would ruin anything BUT i am new to this saltwater stuff and my tank is only 3 gallons and i researched seahorses....so yeah >_< hopefully you can get some more info

If your tank is only cycling now....then move the darned thing to a place where it won't bother you. Tanks in bedrooms are bad news. With every strange noise you hear you'll wake up thinking something is wrong. Just move it.

I once had a tank in my room. I moved my bedroom to another room. It was easier than moving my tank.

mine puts me to sleep like a baby...

the lights(ballasts from the 1970's) from the doctors office used to put me to sleep.

yeah invest in a quiet filter/skimmer or fill the tank up with more water so nothing come crashing /trickling down.

Oh man, you just have to get used to it. When I had a hob filter on my cichlid tank that thing was like a waterfall in my ear. I just got used to it. Get a mag 5 for a pump, they are really quiet.

now i have a mag 5, koralia 2, hob filter, soon to add skimmer, and i can't even tell its running. the heat is insane though, i need a fan now.

Thats I have 2 tanks in my bedroom right now. You do get use to the sound and soon it will be like a soft ocean waves crashing on the beach sound that will put you to sleep. But as for the heat that is something that is on a different scale. With 2 very large tanks on two sides of my bed it puts out alot of heat. I have 4 fans running in there right now that its summer and the heat is killing me. But for the sound you will get use to it and even you will not be able to go to sleep with out it.

Maybe you didn't research your purchases properly. Maybe next time you will consider quiet operating as a factor when your shopping. I would suggest that you replace loud equipment with quiet equipment.

+1 on the Eheim. I have my tank in my bedroom..and its SO quiet i honestly cant hear anything except the water which is actually really nice and puts me to sleep :D.

I also use Eheim and It's so quiet sometimes it's hard to tell if its on or not. I bought an Eheim pump because it's quiet, energy efficient, dependable and has a strong reputation.

Is your pump submerged or external? If it is an external, try putting a mat or foam under it. If it is submerge, make sure you are using the suctions.

yeah, getting used to noise has been a must for me as i hae had at least 2 fish tanks of varying sizes in my room since I was 4 and as many as 6 tanks at one time. It got to the point where I actually need the noise to sleep, so if the power goes out I wake up...if I go away, I need some sort of noise...AC...fan something running in order to get me to sleep. This does make it easy to fall asleep in loud places. I would say try to get used to it... it didnt take me long.
