Nightcrawlers

I have been feeding my fish and starfish live nightcrawlers.

Can anyone give me a reason why I shouldn't

It's free live food.

ohh you guys have some good ones too :eek2:

I would think its possible to contaminate your tank with stuff from the ground, maybe natural chemicals or pollution.
Then again...... your way up there and I dont know if you have the agricultural leaching and run-off problems like we do.

I was considering using crawlers as food for my anemone.

very interesting i put a small one in my tank once and my gold stripe maroone clown loved it but have not done it again since i didnt notice any affects but was worried about long term multiple usess

I would also be concerned with using terrestrial food not naturally available to marine fish, but would be VERY concerned with what Glove stated. Earthworms eat dirt and so anything present in the soil would be a possible contaminant, and it doesn't necessarily have to be ag. based. I am not at all sure at what levels the contaminants would be present in the worms but would be concerned.

Besides ag based pollution you could possibly have high levels of heavy metals and maybe even copper, also soil is chock full of microbes you may not want to introduce.

I just wouldn't risk it when good marine based food is so easily available and cheap too.
