Nikkor 105mm Micro

Is the older AF Micro Nikkor 105mm 1:2.8 D as good optically as the new one with VR? Is it worth 500$ more ( I can get the older one in mint condition for 300$?) I will probably never take it out of house, and probably never shoot with it without a tripod. Are there any other limitations that I should think about? I will be using it on a D90 body.

IIRC they're about the same optically, except that the newer Micro Nikkor has AF-S and VR. Fortunately, most macro shooters use tripod and MF, so IMO the older 105mm is ok.

That is exactly what I was thinking, I bought it for from bic camera's used store in Japan for 300USD. I see they are selling on ebay for 400-500 range, so if I decide I don't like it I can always sell it off.
