nikon 105mm questions..

i just purchased a Nikon D60.

i am looking to upgrade and get a lens for tank shots.

Does the Nikon AIS 105mm f/2.5 Lens compare to the Telephoto AF Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Lens?

Or could someone recommed a good alternative to the nikon 105mm?

I have a Nikon D40x which is very similar to the D60. I changed the kit lens 18-55mm for a 18-70mm. I sold the kit lens at ebay and purchased the 18-70mm. The difference was $100.

The 18-70 is a better lens with better optics. Both are AF-S.

For macro shots I purchased a Nikon AI-S 105 2.8 macro. It is a manual lens which is ok for corals macro shots and mettering does't work with the D60. The good thing is that optics are excellent and you can get a deal used at ebay. I paid $180 for mine.

I love macro shots. Here are some with my AI-S 105.

I went with the pre-vr 105mm. it works just as great as the vr, just no vr.

Ok i figured since it would be on the tripod, the VR wouldnt really matter right?

Turn the VR off when using a tripod, otherwise, image quality suffers noticibly.
