Anyone have, used or contemplated buying either OR? I have the option of either one to go with my 60mm and soon 105mm lenses, Pro's and con's to these lights?

I know the r1 is bulkier than the Sb-29, any thing else you know of?

ok, great point. Isn't the R1C1 much bulkier though? It may impede in shooting very close up. That's one of my concerns.

anyone else?

Have you played with the R1C1 shooting a tank? I like the ring flash concept for most macro photography, but for shooting a reef I'm not sold. I feel like I have much more control using a single mounted remote strobe in commander mode. With that extra level of control textures that would otherwise be lost can be highlighted and/or drama can be heightened.

I wanna use the light mainly to do macros with the 60mm and 105mm lens. I can take pics with my SB800 for full fish shots, but I'm more concerned with very close shots. My take on the SB-29 I guess is it's mainly used for macros I guess? I don't know of any place near me that would let me demo or try out the R1, so I'm kinda going with what I read online and any one of you guys who have used/tried both.

I have a Nikon D70 in case anyone was wondering.

and some of my PICs for fun:
