Nipping Red Flame Angel

I just added my first frag of xenia coral to my soon to be mixed reef tank. I thought my xenia was dying due to water quality. After segregating the coral for a few weeks, it has started to come back. I re-introduced it back to the tank and within 5 minutes noticed that my red flame angel is nipping the heck out of it. Is there any way to stop the angel from nipping or will he have to go??

To be honest. Xenia is a pest. Many would love to have an angel the has a taste for it. Angels are beautiful!

Yeah, I love the Angel, but I really want to go mixed reef now and I'm afraid to invest in some expensive corals only for them to be eaten.

Funny I have a flame angel in my mixed reef he is a model citizen. Does not even touch the clam.

I think its 5050 with the flames I have 1 that I didnt want to think was killing my acans and fungia plates and sps but ended up having to take him out he was toughest fish ive had to catch so far ended up having to drain until i had 1 inch of water and he was still a pain to catch. It never touched my frogspawn though.

I'm going to give him some more time and try other types of coral. If he backs down, he can stay since I really do love that fish.....

You can't judge the fish's behavior solely by its nipping of xenia.

In my experience, there are some corals that are simply irresistible to a lot of fish even those that will ignore other types of corals. Anthelia and xenia (especially a smaller newly introduced and stressed specimen) are on that list, along with pocillapora, stylos, and fleshy LPS).
