I am in the very beginning of setting up a saltwater tank. My first idea was to set up a reef aquarium but now I am thinking of a fish only to start with.

My setup so far.
540 L aquarium
80 L sump
25 W UVC
250 MH
Many pumps
TopPhatom 100 skimmer
all tests

Do you think I need a nitrate filter as well? I do not want sand bed and no LR (too expensive)

I will start with a small number of fish and a some anemones.

If this is your first marine tank I'd skip the anemone. They can be difficult to care for. The best nitrate filters are a deep sand bed, macroalgae refugium and regular water changes.

OK, thanks for your answer. When I was writing nitrate filter I was thinking "mechanical" filters like AquaCare ADN 75 or Schurans Nitrate 100 filters.

I have heard a sand bed might crash your aquarium one day.

Higher nitrates are not much of a concern to a fish only tank. Mine have been between 50 and 80 for a long time now with no problems keeping fish. The only fish I cannot keep is clown fish. Dont know if thats because of the high trates or not.
