Nitrates Jumped from 0 to 30 PPM in two weeks?

Thanks Joe

Hey Paul

Pink anthias? Do you mean female lyretales?

Brian I was wrong I should of said "Purple Anthias"
But they look pink to me with orange around thier dorsal fins.
As for the Lyretales I didnt even notice but Aquarium Depot had about 8 males in a tank.
( I dont pay enough attention to what fish are in the tanks lol)
I picked one up today he is in my 100 gallon right now has all the same markings as yours but not as dark purple looking yet.
I hope this is the one if so I want to order several females they didnt order any females this last time. Ive seen them befor they looked yellowish orange to me but it could be thier lighting.
I will keep my finger's crossed I really love the way your's look.
If I get a chance I will check YOUR REEF see if John has any females

Hey Chad

I think you have is a female and some juveniles. I don't know if the females can become a male. You'll have to research that.

If you folks want, I'm in Sac near Land park, I have reference standards you can measure your cheapo test kits against to check their accuracy for NO3 or PO4.

Not a bad idea for a club to have and use, that and light PAR meter with a depth pole.

Tom Barr

Folks in MARS all have reference standard solutions for NO3 and PO4?

I had the same experience with the API nitrate test kit yesterday myself. I have been dosing vodka and have been keeping a close eye on my nitrates. A week ago they tested at 10ppm and have been dropping weekly. Yesterday I tested and they came up at 60ppm. Immediately I thought something has to be wrong. I go out and get another test kit and sure enough they tested at 5ppm.
