No carbon if SPS?

I have been reading in this forum that SPS like some nitrates and no carbon.
Is that true?
I am planning to purchase a few SPS. I ve had only zoas and LPS until now. My ammonia/nitrites/nitrates are always zero. Alk is 6,7dKH, Ph:8.2
Ca: 410
Mg: 1560
I dont have any fish in the tank though and I spot feed the 3 shrimp and lps every other day.

SPS like some nitrates :
Yes, almost all life forms require nitrogen. You may not always get a reading on hobby grade test kits, but they are not that accurate. if your LPS are doing fine, SPS will have enough nutrients.

SPS do not like carbon :
where is this from ? there is research showing they actually do take up carbon, and bacteria use N, P and C. , or did you mean GAC ?

I would correct the parameters first, keep KH stable at 7 at least, and lower mag a bit. make sure to keep the values stable, for sure that is the most important part of keeping SPS ...

Yes I was referring to Granulated Active Carbon.
Thank you for the advise. I have already bought a 2 part dosing system and have been trying to bring KH up to 8.0dKH. But I have no idea how to bring down the Mg. Although I think it shouldnt be a problem no? I mean its not like off the charts. I might be wrong of course.

okay different story with GAC. I personally like it, think it brings out better PE, and makes water clear. but there are other opinions on this as well.

with regards to MG , while it is not off the chart, it is not in natural levels neither ... just dont dose it and it should drop with water changes.

Hmm it seems odd that my Mg is so high since I have never dosed. As I said I have bought a two part dosing system but have so far used only the KH buffer. I bought the Ca,Mg, Strontium because I read that if overdosing carbonates (KH) might take down Ca.

The dosing system that I bought is the ELOS Prime Line 01 & 03

Since I am using only RO/DI water that I make myself I can only imagine that it is the salt I am using that gives so high Mg. The salt I use is Tropic-Marin Bio Actif Salt

That is most likely it. You should be able to test a fresh batch or look on the bag and see what levels it will produce.
