i have taken my 2 clowns and goby out of my tank because they were coverd in ich. can ich live on corals, shrimps, snails or starfish? if not, how long will it be before i can get some more fish?

Ich can live on anything that is wet however it needs fish to survive. If you have removed all fish from your tank you will need to wait 6 weeks before adding anything. Without a host the ich will starve and die. It will not infect your shrimp, snails, etc...

I recommend using a quarantine tank to introduce new fish, corals, etc.. You should quarantine for 4 weeks to make sure the fish show no signs of ich. That way you might lose one fish not your entire tank.

from what i have read, yes and no.

yes, you can add coral and other inverts and ich needs fish to survive. but, no you shouldnt. at least not if you want to be absolutely sure your tank is ich free as it can come in with any livestock, or water, that you introduce to the tank.

if you are going to add corals in the future without quarantine you might as well add them now. if not, wait the 6-8 weeks to be sure, then whatever goes into the tank should be quarantined to be absolutely sure.

good luck

My tank has a few fish and some corals I have started to add. Just some shrooms, zoo's and a purple tip frogspawn. My blue tang started to show signs of ich and is now got quite a bit of spots all over him. None of my other fish have any spots besides my yellow tang but they went away as I am using Xtreme grlic with feeding. Just the blue maintains them. They did start to go away but now have come back even worse. Any help would be great. Thanks
