I'm in the process of building my first large aquarium. I once had a 48 gallon reef tank but like everybody else I wanted to upgrade, so over the past several months I've been building a 180 gallon reef tank. I've got most of my equipment on order and I want to set up my quarantine system. I'm going to do one 10 gallon tank for fish and another 10 gallon tank for corals/inverts. My question is what is a good quarantine procedure for fish and coral/inverts? Also, which kind of chemicals and medications do I need to have on hand? I've done some light reading about it and I have yet to find anything with a good step by step procedure for a beginner?

As far as I know you don't qt inverts as "normal" diseases do not affect them. I have heard of people qt corals but just to get bugs and hitchhikers off to avoid getting nudibranches etc. but most will recommend iodine dip before placing in the display tank. Maybe a more experienced reefer can jump in here to correct me

I use the tank transfer method for all new fish (and treat the water with Prazipro during the second and fourth tank transfers) followed by an additional 6 weeks of quarantine. I would strongly recommend at least a 20 gallon long tank for the quarantine period, a 10 gallon tank is going to be too stressful for many of your fish. For corals I dip them all in Coral Rx followed by a 10 minute dip in Revive. Go with a minimum of 8 weeks in quarantine, but ideally 72 days and your corals should be good to go.
