No Lid...Dead Goby

I just learned a lesson the hard way. A newly acquired Diamond Goby just jumped out of my tank at 11:30 pm when the lights everywhere were off. I heard a tiny water splash and then something fall on my hardwood floor. By the time I found where it was the goby was dead.

that blows.. i cant figure out what would make a sand sifter just launch itself out of a tank. i have an enclosed canopy and wonder if mine has tried. i rarely see it off the sand bed during the day.

I don't know. It was either my flameback angel or a hermit crab that spooked it. When I heard it happen I knew exactly what it was and started looking around the floor area. Then there it was behind the tank stand 😔

It really died in just the time it took you to find where it jumped to?

I had a clown jump out when i wasn't even around to hear it and i came across it laying on the floor, picked it up thinking it was dead, but then saw it move it's mouth, and put it back in the tank. It dropped straight to the bottom and was upside down sitting on a rock, gradually started breathing, and an hour later he was swimming.

Yeah, unfortunately it was unresponsive...was no point putting a dead animal in and risk ammonia poisoning killing other animals. Clowns are tough. Tons of stories of them surviving 90+ degrees temperatures.
