no luck lately

what is great about the pic is how the majority of them are facing the camera. kathy must have taken it right before feeding time :)

Actually, my fish and I have a mutual admiration going. We like to look at each other.

But thanks embryoguy, that's what I like about it, too.

I think fish are like men...They like looking a Pretty women. I know this to be true because I've been called a fish before...or was it worm...Well, fish or fish bait...Same thing. :) >) ;)

Well, it seems that my luck may be changing. Had a reasonable sized hatch tonight, and larvae are not lying motionless on the floor of the tank! They have orange bellies and seem good sized.

A good sign...

Keep your fingers crossed!

Cyano was gone from the broodstock tank for the whole time these guys were in nest. I did a large water change before they were layed, and another one in mid week. I am still not sure if that is what it is, and of course, we won't know until a couple of days if these larvae survive better than the previous two batches.

I also started feeding the broodstock a fresh batch of ON Formula 1 frozen food. The fish were rejecting the old stuff, and I don't know if they were off the feed because the water quality was bad, or if they just didn't like the old food, and needed fresher stuff.

Anyway, the larvae were all swimming this morning (except 3), and within 2 hours of putting rotifers in the tank, they were all fat bellied and energetic!

They looked better this morning than the previous batch looked after 3 days.

This fish breeding stuff is better than chocolate!

I wouldn't call it spoiled, but perhaps freezer burnt. My new hobby freezer in the basement is a frosty kind, so it will not induce freezer burn quite so readily.

This evening they are looking very well, but now I'm worried that I won't have enough rotifers for them. My rots started to crash after being quite abundant for the month that I did not need them. I caught it just in time to preserve a few live ones, and then three days later, too much success with the clownfish! Hopefully I can bide some time with frozen ones I stored away when I was having such an excess. The larvae seemed to be striking at some frozen rots I added this evening.

Kathy,

Good to know that you are back on track!

As you changed now two potential problem areas (food + water quality) it will be rather difficult to define what had been the cause. I consider that fact that fish reject food they used to take as warning message to the keeper - our 3 cats also give me clear messages if the food is not perfect ;)

I feel with you for the Rots. Currently I also have tons of them, but no nest at all. My percula pair 1 just had their first nest this week, but the eggs where gone within 3 days, second percula pair does not even clean nesting site yet, black occelaris pair is not haveing a good pair bond yet and too young, premnas I don't want nest and latz is anyway way to earlier, but if you need the rots *sigh* ... the cultures start making trouble ...

I think I'll be OK. There are a lot of larvae (400?), but they have that nice peanut shape, even this morning before feeding. So I think they are getting enough. My plan is to feed them half of the rotifer supply each morning, and supplement with frozen in the evening. I am on Day 2 now, and in a couple of days they will start the BBS and dry food.

Kathy, frozen rots have saved my butt a few times, they work. Add them at the same time as some live, the live gets them feeding and once they are all frenzied up they can't seem to tell the difference. Works for me anyway

Congrats on the renewed success :)
