No more RO/DI runs for me

I hooked up my new air water ice RO/DI. How nice it is to make it myself. No more lugging the water to the car and inside the house. No more late runs. Pure bliss.

Except for that small flood I created by overflowing the container. How do I know that its working? Guess I should have gotten a tds meter.

Make sure you dump the first 90ish gallons before using the water. I would recommend getting a tds meter.

Air, water, and ice has great ro/di units and the best customer service around. It is also a plus that any item you order will show up the next day because of how close they are.

Best thing I ever did since getting into this hobby. I wondered why I hadn't done it a couple of years earlier. It gives you so much extra time if you hook it up to an auto-topoff you won't know what to do with yourself. Maybe sit and watch the tank instead of fussing with it, or maybe spend some time with the wife & kids. :D

90 gallons? I ran it for two hours like the instructions said. So that was like only 6 gallons. I just turned it back on. I am only going to turn it on once a week to make 10 gallons. Looks like I will take a sample tomorrow to the LFS for a tds check.

I got mine from Melev, and also ordered the meter with it....I think it was like 16 or 20 bucks i gotta check but after coming through DI stage 0 TDS....total bliss....lol

I through out first 10 gallons per instructions.....not sure about 90 gallons....depending on what the rating is that could take a LOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGG time....at maximum speed mine does 100 GPD....that with optimal temp, and pressure....Im rambling now :)

im waiting on ro/di unit from filter guys. 199.00 - OCEAN REEF + 1 FIVE STAGE 75 GPD RO/DI. comes w/dual tds meter. should be here in a couple days. im stoked.

I went to air water and ice to pick it up. They have a new owner. The guy who spoke to us last year sold it. Well I hope Im at 0 tds. If not then the hair will grow well and then it will go away.

I got about 5-6 gallons in about an hour. Which is a little fast I think. Aww who knows.

The best favor you can do for yourself is to get a TDS meter. They are cheap.

What's the point in making your own water if you still have to wonder how good of job it is actually doing?

Get an In-Line (or two) and hook that up to the system and get a handheld for double checking.

thanks for the 2 cents. this system comes w/inline tds mtr. i am pacing my spending. you may be happy to know i also have a refractometer on its way as well. since i basically have a fowlr tank. and have to recover my hobby fund. what do you suggest as far as not having the hand held just yet?

I was actually answering Ninja in my post.

You are purchasing one with a dual in-line, that's great.....

Refractometer - another wise purchase. I wouldn't be without one.

Not having a handheld ? Don't worry about it.

I like the handheld because I can always check the TDS of the water in the reservoir at anytime. Your inlines won't do that. You can "assume" that because 0 TDS is going into your reservoir that it will come out (or stay) that way (which isn't necessarily true).

I suppose you could unplug an inline and stick it in your resevoir (depending on the set up) but that's a hassle.

It's just a nice gadget ($15-$20).

Well - you could go with a photometer instead of picking up a regular off the shelf test kit for ???? (you name it - Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates, etc..)
