Hello,
I have had this leather for at least a year and now its looks as if it is deteriating. It hasent opened in at least 8 days and it looks like it has algae growing on it. I would guess its dying? Is there anything I can do? My water is excellent? All my other corals are healthy! heres a pic

Suggestions?

zenzence,

i have a blue finger leather and he hasn't opened in almost 3 days. i got home from work today and found that he has finally opened. but around the joints and along some of the fingers it looks to be almost like a cobweb from a spider. Just wanting to know if this might be the same thing. Im freaked out about it. I just got this leather(my first) about 2 weeks ago and its been doing great until lately. Not sure if its dieing or like Steven liu says, just shedding.

What you saw is the leather shedding the wax layer off its body. The organic material is slimy and looks like webbing stuff. It is totally normal for leathers to do that periodically and also when it is stressed out. you can either just wait and sit it out or you can gently rub it off and do some water change to help remove the waxy stuff in the water.

Yes mine does this a lot! I thought it was the leather growing because it looked as if it got bigger after it shed the layer. What about light do they prefer strong light in your experience? I have a piece of this leather that I removed and placed on another piece of rock and it is doing well, but it is in a low light area. What about flow?
Thanks
