My toadstool has been half closed since I moved him from my 10 gal zoa tank to my 55 mixed reef

It's been about a month now and I haven't seen hardly any polyp ext. I know they will shed there outer layer form time to time but this seems too long any tricks to get PE out of this guy, flow food etc. I have coral frenzy and I dosed the tank with zooxanthele last week and I for no response out of him. I'm to the point where I might trade him in at my LFS. My params are perfect nitrates under ten and Po4 almost undetectable. TIA for any help.

They don't need to be fed. A little phyto once a week doesn't hurt though but they'll get the majority of their nutrients from fish waste and lighting.

What kind of flow is it sitting in?

Also what lighting do you have?

I ask because if mine gets too much laminar flow it will close up. Mine likes an alternating current which a stream pump on a wave maker or an MP pump can provide. Mine also likes a lot of light.

T5 and I alternate my koralia 750 from one side of the tank to the other every other week until my Jebo WP comes in cant afford ecotech just yet so that will have to do for now

From what I've seen on the wp25, the flow is insane. ELSE mode seems to be a more subtle mode used for some of the smaller systems. I think if you worked out a consistent alternating flow it would greatly help. The disk and stalk looks healthy. The leather just looks unhappy. What kind of fish and inverts do you have. Since it looks pretty isolated with no other corals close, maybe there is another stressor like a fish or invert picking at it. What other live stock do you have.?

Yellow tang pair maroon clowns lawnmower blenny lion fish and 5 black an yellow damsels I never see any crabs or snails climbing on it like they do in my sps. None of my grazing fish go near it either it's strange it's starting to open up more than it was but still nothing more than in the pic it was closed completely for a week. Hopefully he adjusts soon this is one of my favorite corals. Thanks for the help.

Wow! A lion fish in there with those guys?

You are brave~! Maybe the lion fish is brushing the toadstool on occasion. That would be all it would take to close it up for an extended period. I'd say just give it more time, keep an eye on that lion fish and work on the flow.

A happy toadstool sure can look nice. Here's a picture of mine in my CAdlights tank

Tried several locations for mine. The spot where its at now has the best alternating flow and it seems to be happy.
