Noise from new Loop system

I'm not surprised if it is the pump. I ordered two quiet one pumps once and one of them made an awful racket. The other one was pretty quiet however. The noise would lessen if the pump outlet was restricted. I finally sent it back. You didn't happen to get it from Drs. Foster Smith did you? Maybe they sent you my old one.

Ebay unfortunately. UGH.. lesson learned. I tried the 3/4 reductions on each outlet and basically no difference. the 1/2 make a big diff. I wish I had some penductors. I may order some soon unless anyone else has any laying round.

I had the same kind of rattling noise when I set up a Mag-12 loop in my tank. The intake of the pump was totally open, but the discharge fed into a 3/4" PVC spray bar. The noise could be stopped by reducing the flow. It must have had something to do with the discharge side of the pump because if you ran the pump all by itself, the noise would stop. Maybe the flow "whistles" through the small elbows or something.
