I have a 38 gallon tank that has a 1'' bulkhead mounted on the back glass. It is about 3'' from the top.It has a elbow turned up with a plastic guard to keep fish, snail etc out. My problem is the loud sucking of air going in the tube. With the guard on it won't drain off the surface film .Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem. Its a freakin' pain in the rear!

I made a hole on the piping going out behind the tank and added a thin straw but the loud noise is coming from the open drain.

The best solution would probably be to invert the elbow and set up an overflow box around it. Thats easier said than done when you have an established tank... :(

I have the same problem.
here is mine its a new setup

Ok I just got my tank filled {RO} no salt and checked for leaks. The drains are 1" and one is split to the refuge. It looks like I have bubbling lava in the sump. I understand with the new plumbing it takes aliitle time for the slim coat but I can't see were time will solve this.
I have gate valves on all 3 drains and also both the returns.
The tank is a 120 the sump is a 75
The drains are 1"
The return is fed by a snapper pump through a 1.5 manifold where its reduced down to 3/4 .
Their is No salt in the tank
Would a bubble tower help reduce the bubbles?
What other options do I have?

thanks
