Non interceptor red bugs medication?

So I definitely see red bugs on a piece I just picked up. I would like to treat asap, but tommorow is Sunday and I can't find a vet that would be available. My girlfriend said walmart sells alot of heart worm and tick medication for dogs, but I am unsure if it is tha brand specifically. Does it matter? I have used interceptor once before sucessfully but I am not sure if there is something which makes it different or it's just a brand.

Its the active ingredient that does it. I think Interceptor is the best available. You can search the active ingredient and see if its in other medications. But I am not 100% sure it will work.

Heartguard has a different active ingredient than Interceptor and will not work. Both are by prescription only so I don't see how you can get either at Walmart.

As mentioned it is the active ingredient milbemycin oxime in Interceptor that kills red bugs. It is not in any of the other heartwork meds so they do not work.

Its probably labeled as something else and sold in the LFS, although i'm just guessing. Red bugs won't hurt a couple days so just get some interceptor this week and follow the directions on www.melevsreef.com Remember to remove any snails, hermits, or shrimp you might have as the medication will kill them.

The LFG said he tried a medication for fleas that is not interceptor and does not contain milbemycin oxyme and got rid of his red bug infestation, I'll ask him what it was and let you know.

How is that possible, since it's a prescription medication? If it's true, it's highly illegal.

Remember the LFS also sells all kinds of antibiotics to treat fish. They are prescription only for humans. Most of these antibiotics are made in Mexico and have no quality control, so it is not recommended that people use them. It all has to do with FDA and the pharmaceutical companies, they want common medications hard to get and expensive.

i had a frag that i noticed had red bugs on it, and i ended up just pulling it out and i currently have no sps can red bugs still survive?

No, they die with out acroporas in the tank. Two weeks of no acros in your display and your clear of red bugs.

Hi,

I have been trying to get an interceptor, but I have no prescription since I dont have a pet. Would someone help me out with that? How can I get one without a prescription?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Just tell the vet what you need it for, they usually have no problem. If they do just try another vet.

That's incorrect... Interceptor will not kill your snails.

Just the hermit crabs and shrimp.

Provided that you also kill the redbugs on that acro...

If you move it to another tank for 2 weeks and move it back you will still have the red bugs.
