Non-planar tank

So I built a new stand, taking pains to make sure the top was level and planar.

Then I put my tank on and see a gap under the middle of the tank. :furious:! The stand's not flat! Well, it turns out the stand is flat but the tank isn't. The center of the tank bows up between 1/16 and 3/32"

Is this enough to shim? The previous stand that had been holding the tank for 3 years had trim around the edge, so I never noticed this before. I know that stand was level, so the gap wasn't an issue for 3 years, but of course now I know about it.

What about a sheet of foam insulation? I would think it would give the little bit you're looking for, but that might detract from your stand design.

Being a trimmed tank, I wouldn't worry about it. They are designed to sit on the corners more than in the middle. I've seen several cases like this where the stand is flat according to a quality straight edge but the tank itself is the issue. Never heard of it being a problem long term. A new tank might fix the problem but then again you may just get another that's the same or worse. If it were mine, I would use it like it is and call it a day.
