I am starting to get some of the brown algae growing in my new setup. Water paramaters are all in line.

amonia - 0
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 0
ph - 8.4
dkh - 10
phosphates - less than .25
calcium - 420
salinity 1.025

Should I cut back on the lights for a while or just let it run its course. From what i have read it's normal in a new tank. I had it in my fowlr when i set it up. It was gone in a week or two if i remember correctly. Thanks Ron.

Diatoms. They go away. It is just part of the new tank cycling. It is a normal thing so nothing to be alarmed about.

It will pass on it's own in time. My newly set up tank just got through the same brown diatom algae bloom. It took my tank about three weeks to start clearing itself. I added a clean up crew towards the end to help clean up the rest. From what I have read, adding a clean up crew early to try and eliminate the algae will only make it last longer as the CUC will just pass the silicates back into the tank feeding the diatom algae to bloom again. I also ran GFO phosphate remover the entire time my tank cycled.
