[welcome]

what type of reef do you want? Since you're just starting off, i'd recommend starting out w/some soft corals first and then work your way up to some more difficult stuff.

I would suggest going to the "New to the Hobby" forum on here and going to the sticky at the top of that page....something about "first timers look here" or something like that. But in there you'll find a few good articles on just starting out.

Good luck ;)

First off you have to realize that this is an expensive hobby. I have a 20 gallon that I just started up and I have spent a lot of money! Read as much as you can and just surf around through the forums. Be patient because rushing into things will only be costly for your wallet and for your fish.

Lighting I would say a 150 DE MH.

Skimmer, so many to choose form it is up to you and your system.

Do a lot of research!

There is a lot of things to have in mind. As said earlier, you have a lot of researching to do. I have been researching and watching reefers, their comments, actions, tanks, and their methods. You have a lot to learn. If you have ever kept FW then it'll be a LITTLE bit easier, other wise. Do a lot of research and good luck;)

The foxface will outgrow the tank as we all know, but I think he was not very interested in the fish as much as the aquascaping and corals.IMO

Read these forums and take it slow. They really helped me when I started out.

I agree...took me 3 months before I started my tank. I just wanted to make sure I didn't kill anything since they are pets and you do get attached to them...

Good Luck

I would also read the new series of reef alchemy articles by Randy Holmes-Farley. These can be found at reefkeeping.com in the online magazine. I believe this month's article is the third in the series, but you can look in the archives or click on the links in the articles to check out the first two as well. These explain in detail which water parameters are important for the reefkeeper to control, and which ones aren't. Great reading
