normal for Seio 820?

I bought a used Seio 820, that was encrusted in quite a bit of coralline (including the impeller). I gave it an overnight cleaning in a bit of white vinegar/ro water to get all that calcium off of it. However, I noticed that the water in the bucket, about 3 gallons worth, was very warm to the touch, probably close to around 95 degrees or so? I also tried cleaned a used maxijet 900 and 1200 later in the day. The 900 barely added any heat to the water, and the 1200 caused the water to be very, very hot (Going to throw the 1200 away). Should I be concerned about the seio, or is this normal for only 3 gallons of water?

Not normal in my experience. I also have a Seio 820. Try putting it in 100% saltwater, and let it run for 10 minutes, then check it. It should not be above 90F. Check it with a thermometer.

Seio 820 is 18w, maxi1200 is 20w, maxi900 is 8w.

For 3 gallons, its perfectly normal for 18-20w to heat it up a bucnh.

A submersible pump puts out heat equal to a heater of the same wattage.

yeah, this thing will be replaced by one of those nifty new nano-streams once they come out.. but it'd be safe to toss in my tank for the time being? It's a 58G oceanic.
