Normal prices to expect for frags

So here in the next 2 weeks I am going to be collecting my first corals. I want to start with gsp, Xenia, and mushrooms. The problem I am having is that I have absolutely no idea what I should be paying for these frags. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated to help me make sure I am not overpaying. Thanks!!

Depends on where you are, if buying from an LFS or a fellow reefer and how big the frag is. One last thing is if you feel good about the price being asked for any particular frag. If not make an offer where you are comfortable with the price.

I was thinking of buying from a fellow reefer. The only store that sells decent corals is 1.5 hours away and the minimum price is $50 a frag, and that was for Xenia and gsp. Which I thought was kind of high. What
Do you
Usually pay?

$50 for Xenia..... I need to go into business.... I cant give this stuff away most of the time.

I guess its like the commenter above said, its your location. I have actaully given this stuff away because it grows like weeds in my frag tank just to make room.... Search and look a little harder, find a club?? Join a facebook page close to you, we have three in arkansas on reefkeeping.... You will find more places. I suggest going slow. Dont pay through the nose right off the bat. This hobby can be done on a budget and doesnt have to be heavy on the wallet. Before I paid $150 on three common very easy to grow corals, I will be willing to be there would be someone around that would just give you these as a helping had to get you started. I know I would if I had it to spare and you were close.

My LFS has a 5-10-20 frag tank and xenia and mushrooms are usually in the 5-10 section fancier rhodactis and zoas sometimes fall in the 20 section though. They always have golfball sized GSP for 5-10 bucks as well.

Ok good, that's what I thought too. I wasn't planning on buying the ones in that store, because I thought that was just too expensive. I just wanted to know a more reasonable pice to offer to people in my town

I live in small town Iowa and would upset you if I said what I pay for most of my corals. Seriously I would.

$5-$20 depending on what it is and how large.

I got a HUGE hammer for $20 My very large Toadstool was $10

Local place in town takes about $15 each for frags of my blue cespitularia and devils hand leather. I think $10-20 is fair depending on the size of the frag and how established it is after the cut.

Wish I was that lucky. Around here, I only have 2 quality LFS and 1 of them only sell the basic corals (mushrooms, softies, and some basic LPS). So I believe the other 1 knows and jacks up their price on their corals, knowing that he is the only 1 that sells coral in the area. Fish are dirt cheap compare to the other LFS.
