We just bought this guy about a week ago and i've noticed this black colouring starting on it's back.

I can have some water parameters a little later if needed.
But this is what i have so far.

Hard to tell from the pics. Is this black area a series of spots? Any sloughing of skin? How is the fish acting/ Eating? Scratching? Lethargic? How long have you had him? I think we nee a lot more info.

Well we have had him a week now.
As for how he' s acting, nothing seams out of the ordinary (this is my first marine fish so i don't have anything to go by).

However he appears to be just doing his fish thing, no scratching, not lethargic.. he eats like a horse when i feed him (once ever 2 days) otherwise calmly cruising around the tank.

No visible sloughing

It doesn't appear to be dots.. I think the best way to describe it would be mildew like.. just a slow progression of the black discoloration.

The tank itself has remained stable for the past 2 1/2 months, Amonia, nitrites have stayed at 0, Nitrates havent gone above .5 since week 2 and usually stay at 0. Temp sits constant at 79-80 and salinity 1.025. and weekly waterchanges

There is nothing else in the tank other than liverock, 2 hermits, 1 nerite and a bumblebee snail and a peppermint shrimp.

I hope this isn't the start of brooklynella (sloughing, peeling skin is a major symptom), please keep us posted. I'd sure set up a QT ASAP. You may need it with this fish and a QT is vital for ling-term success in this wonderful hobby, IMO& IME.
BTW, Your clown needs to be fed more than every two days. 3X daily would be about normal..

oh dear.. i just read up on it.. and im soooo hoping this isn't the case.

I was hoping to get away without a QT just because this was the only fish i had planned to pick up for this tank. Although if it comes down to it, ill get that going right away.

Ill definately adjust the feeding schedule btw thanks
