Notice a difference?

I have been running 10k Reeflux bulbs for 6 months and when it came time to change bulbs, I went back to 10k Ushios. Notice the change in overall color only after 3 days under the Ushios?

I was running the reeflux bulb when I bought this coral. It gradually lost it's color at the base. It kept it's color only at the parts that are growing. Under the ushios, the whole coral is coloring up.
I should also add that I changed out my blue + bulbs a couple of weeks ago. That is why the second pic has a bluish tint to it.

You relocated the coral in the 3 days since you changed the bulb? Plus the coral seems to have grown a lot in 3 days. Or are these pics taken more than 3 days apart?

The first pic was taken 1-11-06. The second one was 2-18-06. It went from the above color to the below color in three days.

Now that you mentioned it, I didn't realize it had grown that much since then.

It would until it started to lose it's color again. This is it when I bought it. (11-26-05) With the ushio bulbs, it is regaining it's orginal color.

It could be due to the PAR increase.
Im not sure what ballast and bulb you run, but the USHIO has more PAR in almost all ballast combos.

The USHIO gets 117 PAR
The Reeflux gets 70 PAR
That is with an M58 ballst with an SE bulb.
Thats a big difference.

If your running and E-ballst the difference is smaller.

I think also, the spectrum of the bulb is possibly causing different colors to reflect off that make it different. I've seen corals lighten up very quick.

I would say it is either A or B.
A. Good thing and should regain color.
B. Bad thing and it will lighten till it bleaches from the big par difference.

I've seen both. I had one lighten up similiar that after about 2 weeks, bleached out completely.

I like the color much better though.

What about the rest of your stuff ... similar results?

How about that pink/blue tip millie you posted earlier?
Everything else in the tank is looking good. The above coral I noticed lost color under the reeflux and when I went to the ushio it made a big difference.
Here is the mille you are talking about.

I am running icecap ballast. I didn't clean the reflectors and the bulbs didn't have much of anything on them.

keep in mind that you got brand new bulbs and therefore they had a much higher PAR now that they are brand new and can also cause your corals to bleach.

most bulbs on the market loose a tremendous amount of PAR in 6months which is why a lot of the really hard core reefers change their bulbs at the 6month mark rather then the 10-12month.
