NOTICE: Paypal Account Holders

i just got off PayPal's account resolution and discovered a problem which is apparently a known problem with them but do not notify their customers.

i have a paypal account and was issued a debit card for the account. my account is backed by my checking account. when i received the debit card, it says that i am entitled to a 1% cash back for my purchases if i use my debit card. although the amounts are small, i decided to use my PP debit card to take advantage of the cash back program.

i checked my checking account online this morning and notice a whole bunch of small deductions and it says PayPal transfer. i checked it against my paypal activity and noticed that the 1% they are giving me as CASH BACK was actually being charged to my checking account. basically, PayPal was giving me 1% but i was actually paying for it.

i called PP this morning to clear things up and they say it is a known problem. i asked if they have notified their customers and they said they don't have to since it doesn't affect ALL paypal users. it only affects the debit card holders. they also claimed that this only started happening the last 48 hours.

i checked my paypal history and they've been actually taking money from my account since late august for their "cash back" program. the additional charges are small and pretty much un-noticable but just imagine how much is paypal making on interest income for these additional and unauthorized charges.

paypal says that they are working on the problem but they are non committal to how far they will go back. they say that the customer will most likely be responsible in checking their own accounts.

check your accounts and make sure paypal isn't ripping you off. i thought i'd share this since many of us use paypal to purchase reef items.

get an Amex with 3% back.. i dont mess with pay pal and debit cards if i dont have to...

I recently got screwed by Paypal in a dispute on ebay. They took $111.00 out of my account without notifying me and then hounded me for two months about my negative account balance that they caused.

I paid them off and closed the account. They were very unprofessional in the whole situation. They wont get another penny from me. I dont care if I have to send freakin money orders to people:lol:.

I got screwed by paypal a few times. As a seller and a buyer. As a seller on ebay. I got smarter, now I only use my credit card to pay via paypal. That way when I have a problem with whatever I bought I can just call my credit card company and tell them what happen. Every single time they told me to send back whatever I bought by UPS so there is a signature, and they refund my money instantly. Then they take the money back from paypal and paypal gets screwed. haha paypal.

If you use paypal dispute resolution, that never works out. They take forever and whatever paypal decides, thats it. One time I bought $200 of dvds from this guy. Never got it, he admitted to paypal he was in the hospital and couldn't ship me the dvds. But in the meanwhile he emptied his account. Paypal gave me like $5 bucks and some change. Told me that was the best they can do, if they get more from him in the next 30 days they'll credit my account. Yeah right.......

Funny, I've never had a problem with
Paypal. Just lucky I guess. Mostly use it to sell and not to buy though. I track the account daily and print monthly reports for the accountant so nothing really gets by me.

down with paypal. It is easy and convenient, but if there is a problem......you lose no matter what.

I used Paypal over 20 times and never had an issue. Then this happend. Bums me out because it is really convienient but I wont go back after the way they handled my situation.

The only problem I've had with paypal is when someone got a hold of my account access and made a withdrawal. I discovered it right away and the transaction was terminated...whew. I just had to change my password and some access information...that was 2 yrs. ago.

Paypal says I've received 217 payments. Seems like more but I guess they know.

I understand that maybe I'm lucky and just haven't had a problem yet. But I'm certain that if/when I do that PP will follow the policies that they've made clear from the start.

The possibility of a loss to me is just the cost of doing business... no risk no gain. :)

I believe that is from verified buyers, as we have only 96, but I know there has been more, just not from verified members.

I agree with you Steve, we have been a member for over 5 years without any problems at all. Everything has worked like a charm, knock on wood, and I do like certain features that Paypal offers, such as 1% cashback on purchases with their ATM card, as well as they offer money market interest on your current balance ( right now it's 5.04%, which is really good). Just my two cents.

Paypal and ebay s-u-c-k, I hate them. I sold a game on ebay, buyer sent payment I sent out game. On the same day I sent out the game, I saw the buyer payment was put on hold for investigation per paypal. No email notification from paypal. Nothing asking for proof of tracking. I checked my paypal account and no where it lets me enter the tracking number. No case or dispute open. Few days later fund reversed back to buyer. I e-mailed paypal and 5 days later they responded telling me that the fund was reversed because I didn\'t send or give them the tracking number.

The point here is that I never received anything from paypal asking for tracking number, I can\'t enter tracking number online via my paypal account since there was no case/ no dispute open.

Now I am out of the game and out of the cash. Of course the buyer never reply to my email.

Very similar to what happend to me.

FYI, I did the same thing. I had the credit card linked to the paypal account and never had a balance on paypal either. What they did to me was they paid the other guy and just made my account balance -111.00. Then they thretend to report me to a collections agency. Thats when I paid it and cancelled the account.

Heres what happend...

A guy bought a PS2 from me and emailed me 2 months later and said it wasnt working. 2 months later! I told him it was working fine when I sent it out and that for all I know his kids could have been jumping up and down on the thing for the last two months. I said sorry and referred him to a place to get it fixed.

About a month later I get a negative balance notification from Paypal. They didnt ask me or anything. Thats BS.
