Nova Exmtreme

Fosters and Smith have a sick deal on Nova Extreme T5s. I have a 55g 18inch normal breeder, woudl the 4 lamp 216 watt be good for most things or shoudl i get the 8 bulb, 432 watt, which seems overkill for my small tank or am i wrong.

The 8 bulb almost definetely won't even fit on top of a 55g. The 4 bulb is plenty for everything but crocea/maxima clams and SPS. If you want to keep those, get a Tek fixture instead, or some other T5 with individual reflectors.
