When? 5:30 PM on Sunday, November 11
Where? Fins of Franklin
410 Williamson Square, Franklin, TN 37064
Thanks to Tim at Fins, we'll be having our first meeting there! This will be a great meeting for several reasons:
----We'll be having our special Guest Speaker, Dr. Robert Tanner from Vanderbilt! Dr. Tanner, an expert in the field of foam fractionation (a.k.a., skimming), will be giving a talk about the science behind skimming. Skimming is very commonly used in reef keeping (probably almost everyone in the club uses one), but the science behind what skimming removes from our tanks and what variables are important to control in order to optimize the removal of bad things (and possibly minimize the removal of good things), has been given little attention by aquarists and scientists in general. Dr. Tanner and our very own Chris Stowers are just beginning to study foam fractionation as it pertains to use in the aquarium. This talk will be giving a good overview of what skimming is, how it works, and a little bit about what variables are known to be important for optimizing skimmer performance in the aquarium. We should consider ourselves very lucky to have a world-class researcher willing to give his time to educate us on this very important topic.
----Tim (the owner of the store) has promised something to raffle off for MTRC members. More details on that later.
----Special discounts on items in the store for MTRC Members! (I believe this will be 25% off on Dry goods, and %15 on Live goods. I don't think this includes tanks. I'll try and clarify that before the meeting, but the discount will be similar to what we get at meetings at ebay and the critter).
----Pizza! Tim is providing Pizza for the meeting.
Please respond to this thread if you can make it so we can get a kind of head count for the pizza.
Hope you all can make it!
P.S. I kind of stole the description of the lecture from Brian's old post.
