Here is some info on MACNAXX for you guys:

MACNA XX September 5-7, 2008 in Atlanta

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are excited about this year's MACNA conference. We already have Pre-registered and paid as many as most of the total attendance of the first 15 or so MACNAs, so it should be huge. Combine that with a great hotel, great speakers, cheap flights, and the Georgia Aquarium and we have everything to try to get you guys to have a good time while in Atlanta.

The hotel is great, and the room night of $119 can't be beat, it usually is in the $250-300 range. We were able to negotiate pretty well, but rooms are going fast.

There is a lot to do in Atlanta if people come early or bring significant others - CNN, Olympic Park, the Georgia Aquarium, the Children's museum, the world of Coke, and Hooters (hey, I know my audience) is within a 5 minute walk, and MARTA goes from inside the airport to the hotel for $1.75 - so no cab charges. The same MARTA can take you to the Braves, shopping centers, etc. We are also getting together a kids program (popcorn and movies in the hotel) to allow parents to go to the banquet and speakers. We will offer that at cost.

Oh, and the banquet is food by Wolfgang Puck. No open bar like Pittsburgh, but good food inside a great banquet hall inside the largest aquarium in the world with two windows - one toward the largest indoor aquatic exhibit in the world (over 6 million gallons - the size of a football field) that includes four whale sharks and the other one toward the four beluga whales.

Please check out our website www.macnaxx.com.

So who is going and how can I help?

Steve

Thanks again steve for the information. I know I am going to try this year with my family, with so much to do, I can do my geek thing and listen to the speakers while the rest of the family checks out the city.

Question though, is the atlanta aquarium offering any behind the scenes tour like pervious years? I know space is limited, thats why I ask. :)

I will speak more about this at the next meeting, but for those of you who do not know, MACNA is the worlds largest industry and hobbiest confrence. Most of the largest topics including harvesting, aquaculture, enviornmental impact, vendors, new products are all discussed, demonstrated and displayed. Many of the speakers usually at MACNA are very skilled professionals not afraid to get their hands dirty (literally)

fish and Frag sales, trades, etc. are common and some of the most rare specimens can be found without waiting lists.

Overall, if you are really into this hobby, you should be there. and for those of you who think it is over their head, think again, newbies to professors can all learn and have a great time.

Here are some quick prices, the more people, the more we can cut these down:
MACNA XX Registration ranges from $39 - $109 if purchased before the first of the year
Hotel: $119/night
Flight ranges from $300+ but I am sure discounts will pop up between now and then. Maybe even a road trip is in order. :)

Anyway, Back to work. :(

Georgia Aquarium will have behind the scene tours, and we are working on reduced prices on tickets. The banquet will also be in the banquet hall of the Aquarium.

Steve

WOOHOO!!!

One more question if you don't mind, on the hotel, is that $119 per person or room? If we have 4 people (my family) in a room, is it still $119/night or does that go up depending on the quantity of individuals?

hey alex i dont remember we we discussed tanks of the month or when pics were even taken. who is involved in this.

never mind the last post. i just saw the thread. should be fun. is this just for members or is this to the public

Thanks for reminding me.

Open to the public per me. :) at some point when we offer prizes, the prizes will be reserved for the best MEMBER tank, but all entries are welcome. I will also point this out in the other thread.

unfortunately due to my military career on the third weekend of the month i have to go to the field and camp out at kirtland this weekend. hopefully everyone will have a good time.

I am probibly going to be bringing a BlowPop Zoa, and a few other small frags.

As for beer, Not sure about this meeting, but in the future we should plan an "after" meeting get-together at fridays or something like that. somewhere where we can drink. :)

Just wanted to let everyone know I will be out of town for this meeting. Looking forward to finding out what went on so keep in touch.

If people want to bring a few things thats cool with me, and I am sure Rob as long as we are neat about it.

Unfortunatly, no alchohol. :(
