Jason: that clamp will corrode in saltwater and possibly release some noxious metals into your tank. I'd advise you replace it with some nylon wire ties or some nylon hose clamps ASAP. It's hard to identify the critters you are referring to, but I don't see anything that is likely to be a problem (other than the clamp :p )

Thanks, but

Thanks, but

Thank you for the advise. I will remove the old clamps and replace with new more "friendly" clamps. Its is the liitle things I am still learning. I am still very curiuos as to what these little critter type things are. I have attached another photo, but cropped, as to leave out any of my other short comming that have your detailed inspection and problems you may have wihth my setup. I would love to have one of you guys over to my house to tell me everything I am doing wrong. I want to learn. However, these things are everywhere and I reall what to research what they are, where they come from, and what they do, but I have not a clue as to where to begin.......

thank you again fro the help you all ahve provided to me in the past, and anything I may wonder in the future. That is what keeps me interested in learning more and wanting to become more EDUCATED about reefing!

The white puffy growths that you are referring to are syconoid sponges of the genus Sycon. Veyr harmless if not helpful in and of themselves as filterfeeders... but an excess of them indicates a nutrient control issue in the system (overfeeding, poor skimmer/skimming, overstocking, lack of water changes, etc).

I like them very much personally :)
