nTOTY?

My thoughts,

Use the fts from each monthly winners submission and their user name. Pm'ing each winner and the debate it could start (new picture vs. original nTOTM photo) seems unnecessary to me. Like was said, snapshot in time. We all vote and the winner is invited to discuss their tank, the good, the bad or the ugly. Post new pics if they wanted or simply say 'thanks for the honor but that tank was taken down'.

What he said.

Starting today I will PM each of the past monthly winners informing them of this informal contest and ask them if they wish to participate. With the holidays and some of the winners being international I think the voting date should begin around January 3, 2012 and run for two – three weeks. Again this allows each of the past winners time to accept or decline this as well as allowing the voters an opportunity to get back to their regularly scheduled RC surfing at work, home or school.

Here is the PM:

Greetings. This is to inform you that because you are a 2011 nTOTM winner your tank has been entered into the 2011 NTOTYear contest. This is not a scam etc. and nothing is being asked from your end. Please go to the link below to verify or simply log into RC and look in the nano forum under KafudaFish’s nTOTY? thread to see it: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2106361. Please accept the entry in that thread or simply reply to this PM.

Here are some details of the contest:

Who: The 12 nTOTM winners from 2011.
What: The voters will choose a Nano Tank of The Year for 2011. This is an informal contest to open additional discussion on a topic we all love.
Where: Reef Central’s Nano Forum.
When: Acceptance or rejection for your tank entry will be December 12, 2011 – January 2, 2012. If you accept between the dates your tank is entered. If you wish not to participate then your tank will be removed from the contest. If you do not reply then it is assumed that you have accepted the contest and the tank will be entered.
Voting will begin around January 3 or there and will run for two weeks.
How: As a winner there is nothing that you have to do. The voting will be based upon your tank’s condition during the month it won therefore tanks that have been broken down or have crashed are allowed to participate.

In the voting thread, a FTS of your tank and a link showing your winning writing up will be included. You are welcome to stop in to let us know how the tank is running etc.

Thank you for your time and you should be very proud of your reefing accomplishments. Good luck in the contest.

Mike

Ok I sent a PM to the 11 winners.

SeaWorldKid1 won the June 2011 contest but never responded for a winning thread build. Agu contacted him but never got a response from him/her. I did not include this tank as part of this contest.

Hey!

Thanks for making the nano community alive and kickin' with this new contest!
Of course I'll be happy to participate, my tank is "Miss February", lol :)

It will be nice to see all the tanks once again, altogether!

Merry christmas to all, and thanks for all the great work done on RC!

Sabine

Thank you Mike for taking this on .

If you need any moderator support PM me or use the report this post link to get a faster response ( I have a day job and I'm not always available).

Looking forward to the thread and I hope we see some fresh pics of the tanks.

My tank is still running but I sold a part of my acan collection. My main livestock remaining are ricordea yumas and ricordea floridas. Anyway, Merry Xmas(despite it's late, busy recently). I am interested in the contest, must be cool.

Agu:

Thanks for the offer. So far it has been pretty easy and with Bandit that makes it 6 yes and 5 still to go with the rest of the week left. I have not looked to see when the rest of the monthly winners were on last so maybe they will check in this week.

Bandit:

Thank you for entering the contest and good luck to you as well.

As far as beginning the contest I will begin it next week. It will include a voting poll, an image of a FTS for each winner and a link to their winning write up.

I hope that each winner posts in it and talks about their tank and are welcome to include pictures etc. in their replies. One of my goals in this is to open some additional discussion beyond the typical eye candy that everyone loves to see and try and increase the readers' chances of achieving long-term success with these systems.

People often equate the bigger the system the more difficult or more complex it must be compared to these smaller systems but anyone who has been doing this for a length of time realizes that these systems require the same if not more husbandry techniques than the larger ones since issues can escalate rather quickly.

Do I need to post my new FTS?

Thank you for entering Got and good luck. I am sorry about the tank.

I thought about the whole FTS now vs. when the reefer won and in the best interest I think that each voter should base their choice on when the person won because that is a snapshot in time. Got's tank is a perfect example of this.

I do however welcome any and all photographs by the winners for open discussion.

Another point that I am going to ask the voters about is to consider the content of the photographs compared to the quality of shots.

I realize that some shots are magazine or book quality and that really does have an impact on a person's perception but I am hoping that people focus more on tanks themselves in their decision making process.

We are getting closer to everyone being in!

Here are the MIAs:

August Neal.Kaye last on 8.10.11
Sept. akvaryomtukasu last on 12.20.11 so he should have seen the pm.
Oct. Toofriginswt last on 12.17.11
Nov. egea1966 11.22.11

If anyone knows these reefers (reef club members etc.) would someone mind shooting them a heads up?

Thank you.
