ok i have always seen nudis at my LFS and have always ben tempted to buy one are they hardy and what is the best time that is reef safe??

They are all very specialized feeders and we aren't aware of what most of them eat. In almost all cases they will meet an untimely demise in the home aquarium.

I agree, due to specialized food requirements most, unfortunately especially the bright and colorful ones, are best left in the ocean.

I believe lettuce nudibranchs are supposed to be fairly easy to care for (99% of them are doomed to death when removed from the wild). Of course, the one I had did not fare well at all. I think they need a lot of algae to graze on, and my tank was starving the poor guy. I ended up giving it to a friend, and I think it survived, but I haven't checked on him recently. Some people have taken to buying Berghia (sp?) nudibranchs to take care of their aptasia, but as they only eat anemonies, I'm guessing these guys are doomed to death once the aptasia is gone.

Lettuce nudi are not really nudis, they're actually sea slugs. They also are specialized feeders, it just so happens that what they consume is fairly common in home aquaria. The problem is, usually once the Bryopsis disappears usually they do a short time after. In addition they're not very effective at controling Bryopsis sp. and often it will just run it course as long as nutrients are low.
