Nudibranch pics

Thought I would start a thread on the Nudibranch I brought home from the meeting today. Thanks again Jeremy.

It is not green like the pic on reeftopia, I have no idea why. It seems to be doing OK. Does anyone know if this is a bad sign?

Mines turning red from eating red slime algae.....they are cool little creatures for sure, just keep em out of your pumps.

I'll try, maxi jets are high on the glass. Soo hopefully he stays on the rock. Didn't see him this morning. I guess I am most worried about (do I dare say it?) green brittle star. I think I may have just bought him a $7 meal. I didn't even think about it. Anyone want a green brittle star, free??

Hey, what are you doing with red slime??? I thought I was only one on here with that . ;0)

I have some growing my fuge, i have been lighting it 24/7 and some poped up, it's just about all eatennow though, the snails and nudi are tearin it up...........

I don't see mine. I thought the serpant star was looking pretty suspicious. Hopefully he's just hiding somewhere

Nudibranch still doing good

Lee, did you find your Nudibranch?

Mine is still doing well. The bristle star nor the large hermits have had him for dinner. These really are very cool! Here is another photo:

yup mine showed up a couple days ago. I saw him floating around for a little while before he attached to a rock. I'm more worried now that he'll get blended. Something interesting that I read about them is that they get energy by photosynthesizing. Apparently they utilize the chloroplasts from the algae they consume.

Does anyone know if they have any defense mechanisms? I keep thinking one of these huge crabs will eat him.

Please, someone correct me if I am wrong, but this is not a nudibranch. It was my understanding that nudis are carnivorous whereas sacoglossan sea slugs are herbivores. So... isn't yours a slug if it eats algae?

Anyway, I've been trying to research these as I have a Elysia diomedea that finished off all the hair algae in my tank and now I don't know what to feed it. Been trying different things but nothing seems to interest it. From what I can determine the average life of mine is about 18 months. I think the one Jtesdall pictured is a Elysia clarki see here: http://www.seaslugforum.net/factsheet.cfm?base=elysclar

Has anyone noticed them eating a specific kind of green algae? Mine ate Bryposis exculsively and now will eat nothing else. According to what I can find on your specific slug it will eat Bryopsis and Derbesia while in nature they also eat Penicillus and Halimeda but not Caulerpa.

There is a thread on RC about breeding my species, see:
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=838301

If anyone is interested in supplying some bryposis infested rubble so mine has something to eat, just let me know.

That sure looks like him. He was sold to me as a lettuce nudibranc from a company in Florida. You have done way more research than I did. Sadly, mine disappeared about two weeks ago. I don't know if he got eaten or if he just went away. He seemed to be doing well and then he was gone.

Sorry to hear he disappeared. Mine is very active but I fear he will starve to death soon if I don't find something he will eat. You have a much larger tank than I do. If mine dies I guarantee I will know it.
