its probably a sponge of some sort, they are harmless, and you probably killed it anyway by taking it out of the water

I shot those with a funny little rig I use. It is a Canon a80 with an old 50mm slr lens reversed on front.

I have stopped shooting them, because I seem to have accidentally eradicated them all.. Now that I said that, maybe one will pop up.
