ramtheory no, and I hate to say this but maybe it is Trottie he lives over here too. I know a few people in Columbia that have SW. I don't know a Christine, so no.
well the zoo have bene in QT for going on a week ow. I waited to see what happened after my first sighting. Surprise the Nudi's came back. I am going to change the tank out to a 10 gal. this weekend as it will allow me better access to all of the frag and rocks easier than the shelves of eggcrate I have in a small acrylic. The problem is I am walking a fine line with my fiance. We made a deal that there would be no more fish tanks going up until we got a puppy. She broke out the sad face when she saw the QT tank. The only thing saving me is all of the Zoo's are "hers". She likes them the best next to the crop of 2 kinds of frogspawn and hammerhead we have.
I am going to keep in QT for a couple of months. Will dip at least once a week and check each frag/colony for nudi's and eggs. Seems getting rid of theeggs isthe most time consuming and important part.
Side note does anyone local stock and sell T-5 actinic and whites bulbs in the 24" variety? Trying to keep the color these guys had under my MH with the old t-5 setup and it seems a couple of bulbs are burnt out.
Or better yet does someone have some old bulbs from changing out that I could buy. Dont really wanna buy $60 worth of bulbs for a QT tank.
Do a freshwater dip with 2-3 drops of Lugols in a 5 gallon bucket (as close to 5 gallons as you can get, Lugols is some strong stuff!) Some people also do a 50/50 Hydrogen Peroxide/Freshwater dip, but don't leave the zoas in there very long because the H2O2 is hard on them. Have you added any flatworm exit to your dip concoction? That sometimes helps too, but manual removal of egg sacs and all seems to make the biggest dent in it.
Wow I was using a lot more Lugols than that. I think I will keep going with a dip or two a week and manual removal whenever I have spare time at the house.
Thanks for the pointers guys and gals.
Brad so what your saying is that if I continualy kill the alive nudis before they lay more eggs they will eventually die off. Sounds like a longer drawn out plan. I will attack the eggs as well with the tweezers.
Does anyone know the life span of a nudi, some gte rather large as I have seen. But whats the incubation of the eggs and how soon Nudis become able to lay these eggs.
You'll have to kill them all off to point of where there are no more eggs left. This can take a while as you'll never see all the eggs.
So you'll be doing a lot of dips.
Blow the Zoa colony really hard witgh a baster 5 times or more and this should be enough to knock the nudis off into the water. This is a good way of seeing if there are any left. My clown liked to eat them.
