After taking roughly a year off and moving from Houston to NYC, I have decided to get back into the hobby. My plan is to slowly piece everything together in order to get the tank wet by late June/early July.
*
Tank: Red Sea Reefer Nano White (Delivered)
Return: Waveline DC2500 (delivered)
Skimmer: Icecap K2-50 (delivered)
Waterflow: MP10 (already have)
Controller: Apex (already have)
Light: Radion gen 2 (have on hand) it it's too much or has too much light spillage, I may try a Kessil 160 or an AI Prime HD
Nitrate/phosphate removal: NOPOX, Marinepure block (delivered)
Doser: Jaebo DP-4 (delivered)
Auto-top off: will start with stock, may upgrade to Tunze or Smart ATO
Sand: special grade( delivered)
Rock: 15 LB KP aquatics uncured (need to order)

Possible equipment: Aquamax nano calcium reactor and co2 regulator

Scape: wanting to do something similar to a reefs edge, rock taking up 1/3 tank max, I'll have to find a picture.

Livestock-
Fish: TBD
Inverts: some rock nems and many a few Maxi's plus cleanup crew
Coral: heavy emphasis on gorgonia, Zoa, with some Lps and maybe a scattered SPS..... Going to try to stay away from the skittles look (lots of different frags everywhere)

Worst place ever to have a reef tank. But yea, welcome to the city, and good luck! If you want some frags, want to check out a city nano (though I'm in Queens, off the N/Q), or want to just talk tank, feel free to reach out. There is a very active community in NYC, tons of tanks, lots of clubs, and lots of people with lots of coral.

Build list looks really good. Let me know how the calcium reactor works out if you do go that route. I could, but haven't, I'm still doing 2 part.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I will definitely take you up on the frags. I will probably start off with 2 part dosing until my tank becomes more mature, but I will let you know how it works if I go that route.

I know it's very premature, but I'm already trying to decide on what fish I want to stock (will have a huge effect on how much rock/sand I put in the tank)

A) pike blenny, yellow head jawfish, small scorpion or leaf fish
B.) yellow or red fuzzy dwarf lionfish
C) Fu Manchu lion fish
D) trio of ORA assessors
E) 3-5 cardinals (not sure on the species)
F) Pair of yellow head jawfish and a Red Podge ( http://m.liveaquaria...R-_-DDN-_-PRDCT )

I wouldn't count on keeping corals with A, B, or C. You'll just need to feed so much that it'll negatively impact the corals. It's tough to keep more aggressive fishes in a nano. Even with adding something marinepure blocks (of which the verdict is still out on), you'll just have a hard time keeping nutrients low enough for corals to thrive and not algae.

Assessors, cardinals, or jawfishes are fine, except jawfishes can be tough because you'll need to have a deeper sand bed, and it's already tight dimensions because of it being a nano. Also the link for the Podge didn't work ;)

I have to respectfully disagree on the point of not being able to keep corals with lions/scorpions. I have no intention of running a ULNS and I have had no difficulty keeping them with soft coral, Lps and SPS In the past under proper husbandry. There are numerous examples of successful "predator reefs." I also plan to carbon dose with Red Sea NOPOX for additional nitrate/phosphate reduction.

I agree that I will need a deeper sand bed If I want to keep jawfish, and that is one of the reasons I want to settle on my fish selection prior to setup.

Thanks for the input [emoji3]

Here is a link that should work

Hey, have Red Sea reefer tank 350 and I'm in Queens, New York if you would like to connect PM me

Raed

Absolutely, can't wait to meet all the NYC Reefers !

Today I was able to get the ikea cabinet wired and apex, vortech controller, and other electronics mounted. The Light was mounted, (this Radion is way too big, will need to get something more appropriate in the near futur), and the tank will be leak tested tomorrow.

I actually light the way everything looks, but the "light spill" from the Radion is extreme (which is why I have it in an anterior posterior orientation).

Tank is now cycling with Dr. Tim's and ammonium chloride

I plan to do a complete cycle of the tank with sand and marinepure blocks before I order my uncured Liverock from KP Aquatics

I REALLY like those........

I REALLY like those........

.......and will be vicariously watching over your shoulder!

I would like the next size larger, but not til we move to where we will retire to.

How was the plumbing to set up? That makes me a bit nervous.

It was beyond easy, all of 15 minutes and not a single leak (crosses fingers), I am beyond impressed with this tank. I wanted the 170 as well, but the size of my apartment was the key limiting factor

I'm even greedier......

I'm even greedier......

......in that I'd love the 260, too. Hmm.......maybe I can convince my wife for both........

Keep us updated, please!
