Hey,

I as thinking about going to the tour of the frag facility at Fosters and Smith. The question I have for you folks is flying in to Milwaukee and driving to Rhinelander. Is this even feasible,Have any of you taken the tour in the past? Do you know how many hours roughly it would take? Thanks in advance Anthony

You would be better off flying into Green Bay IMO. Your drive time would be cut in half. It will cost more but it is a much smaller airport and sooo easy to get in and out of. I would say it is about two hours from Green Bay. Maybe more maybe less. I am going to the swap but have never been there myself before.

They may even have a direct flight from your area.

I attended the swap last year and took the tour of both the Aquaculture facility and the warehouse. Each tour was around 45 minutes maybe a little less for the Aquaculture tour. Just FYI, the Aquaculture facility is really not that large and only takes up about one third of the building it is in and the rest of the building is used for packaging and storage. Don't get me wrong, it is still an awesome sight to see its just not some huge coral factory like some may think it is.

That would explain why some of the Aquacultured corals are seasonal....limited to space.

Wisconsin reefers,
Thanks for all your input and suggestions, that definetly will help with my decision. Anthony

There is an airport in rhinelander. Foster and smith is on the back side of it as a matter of fact. You might be able to find a flight directly there. Might cost a bit more but you would probaly make up for it in gas and rental car cost. Otherwise there is also an airport in mosinee I think.

really, unless your time is really that tight, its better to fly inot milwaukee.

GB and rhinelander as well as central wi Airport are closer, but will cost a lot more $$ to fly into. a rental car is cheap to get, and you may not have much choice if any at the smaller airports for rental cars.

plus, rental cars are great to beat on. i beat on a new 06 chrysler pacifica for 171 dollars total for 10 days in N california over 1000 miles the last part of april.

at the smaller airports, you may only have a very limited choice of cars at premium prices. plus, milwaukee (Mitchell field) is VERY easy to get around.

The last time we compared prices the diff flying into GB over Milwaukee was under $50 a ticket(wife said about $25). Granted that was two years ago. I figure my time was worth more than that. Plus for us it was a nice ten minute drive to the airport. It actually would have cost more to fly out of Mil for us.

I am sure the price dif is greater now. But how much I do not know.

for 50 bucks i would have done the same gooch. But i really dont think its that cheap anymore.

heck, its a lot more economical to fly out of chicago than milwaukee, although i would rather drive all over wisconsin and back than drive to O hare.

6 years ago (when i went to UWSP) flying out of CWA to Maine was like 200 dollars per person for only the extra leg from CWA to MKE. we elected to drive to MKE.
