Ocean Geotronic Chiller

Folks,

Anyone using this chiller for their tank? I have a Model 400 that is housed in my fish room, about 12 feet below my main tank. The "treated" water goes into the return section of my sump. The weather is getting warmer now here in NJ, and I'm finding it's not doing a great job of keeping the tank at a constant temp. I typically have about a 1.5 - 2.5 degree swing, which I'm worried is too much for my SPS corals.. I'm currently using a Maxijet 1200 as the pump, and curious if something more powerful might help get the cooled water into the sump and then the tank quicker?

Any advice is appreciated...

Thanks,
L3

Never heard of it. How many HP is the model 600. I'm assuming that it is very small since you are running it with a powerhead.

Yep, I gotcha now. Seen those on the web. Well, I know they have a limited pull down range compared to the standard freon based flow through or drop in chillers. I guess you have two choices. Get a bigger Geotronic. Or, go with a conventional chiller. This is for your 56 gallon? If you only need a a little cooling, maybe can get away with a 1/10th hp. But in general, a 1/5th would be a good choice for a 56 gallon and probably handle anything you can throw at it in terms of lighting, pumps, and the good ole heat of summer.

You need to put a different pump than a maxi jet 1200. That can't be moving enough water thru that chiller.
My 300 is plumbed in to my return and the pump pushes the watewr thru the chiller so that the chilled water goes directly into my 70g display.
Anyway, I would definitely try a more powerful pump before I go and spend hundreds on a new chiller.
