Ocean Pro Is A Ripoff

So I buy a mogul socket & a bracket for a mogul socket from Ocean Pro on the auction site. $6 for the socket & $5 for the bracket. These bastards wanted to charge me $42.40 to ship these items to my house in Whittier, which is about 20 miles away. $42.40!!!!! I figured the weight to be about 3 lbs & the dimensions of the box to be no bigger then 10" x 10" x 6" (standard size shipping box). UPS quoted me $5.68. A whopping $36.72 profit on shipping charges. I absolutely refused to pay it..........they turn around & give me 2 negatives on Ebay because I won't pay thier outrageous shipping charges. Bought the socket, bracket & powercord from Marine Depot & it was at my house next day for $28.

Ocean Pro, you suck!!!!!!

They are incompatent. I won't purchase anything from them again.:thumbdown

but the owner is really large and scary, so I will never say it to his face or on the phone when I was complaining to him.
 
all they are good for is Live Rock.. anything else i say go elsewhere.. i drove all the way over there because they told me that they had large pieces of shelf rock.. yeah whatever the pieces that they had could fit in the palm of your hand.. 50 in drive for nothing.. thank goodness Eric "fragfarmer" is close to them.. at least he is worth the trip to the IE...

If you ever decided to say it in his face, just make sure you take 2 or 3 Gabriel with you. :lol: :lol: :lol:
 
Some of those places on Ebay don't put shipping cost until you win the bid. Beware of those places because they jack up the shipping. Or you should have asked how much was shipping is before bidding.
 
A few years ago I bought a 180g tank from them that someone else had ordered through them, however, the customer backed out and decided to go with something larger. So I bought this tank right, and Mike (I think he's the owner or one of the owners) wanted a lot of money for it. He said it wasn't his price but the price of the customer who had backed out. So I asked Mike if he could get the guy on the phone thinking that I could haggle with him on the price. Sure enough the guy came down $300.00. You should have seen the look on Mike's face. I never could figure that one out. It was almost as if he was mad or something. But what he did next is the reason I've never gone back.

The tank was drilled on the bottom for 4 returns and Mike offered to sell me 4 - 1" bulkheads. Figuring it wouldn't be much more than $20-$30.00 I said ok. Imagine my shock when he handed me an invoice for nearly $100.00!!!! Good grief, it was just 4 regular bulkheads. If those are his prices then fine but I think it was a little shady because he was swearing up and down that he was "wholesale". Needless to say I handed him back his invoice and asked him to cancel my order. I left with my tank never to return.

By the way why did Ocean Pro get banned from RC?

I told you all that place was bad-news.
I when there and the guy tells me one price, one minute later the price is HIGHER.
I said what!!!
I left without buying.
And havn't been back since.
Junky and dirty place anyway.
 
This is the email I received from them.....

"You didn't get an unpaid strike by us, that's ebay. Ebay sees all transactions as contractual agreements and we can agree to mutually remove that agreement, but ebay leaves a unpaid strike. However, this does nothing to your record unless you recieve many. I was very good to you by permitting you the realease of this item and now you leave me a negative? I'll be doing the same since you weren't mature enough to call us to see what that was about.. With the thousands of feedbacks we have, it really doesn't hurt our feedback percentage at all. I guess this is what I get for trying to help you."

Ya help me by charging me $42.40 for shipping........First rate customer service!!!!

Your right Ken, but it just makes me so upset that after they weren't able to rip me off, they still got me by giving me 2 negative feedbacks on Ebay.......

May I should just say "Fellow reefers, beware of Ocean Pro....."

Yes, they have a really awkward way of doing business. They claim to be LARGE wholesaler but the operation is really small. No way are they wholesalers.
Also they claim to have the best prices but for some reason, they are not?>?
 
They're primary business is to turn-&-burn live rock. They receive it and send it right back out for a hefty premium.

Just like Gabe said.. good for LR only.

I 86'd them from my vendor list a while back because of a similar occurance.

Sucks for them.

PS. He must be making a nice profit.. he drives a nice-*** benz. ;)
 
yah, i heard guys trying to get franchise rights for certain areas from them and they told them their prices for the rock would be what they are online right now??? hello... oh and that they would raise the prices on the rock.crazy.

plus i too wanted some large shelf rock but I guess they are having problems getting new rock in.I was able to get it from another wholesaler so no idea what their prob is.need to cancel my order over there.

But I did learn one thing from ebay and that is, dont leave negative feedback unless you have to, because like he said, your negative feedback wont hurt them, but theirs hurts you a ton.
