Oceanic 29 Gallon Bio Cube

Was at my LFS today, and saw a couple of these that looked like they had just been taken off the truck....they want 300 bucks for one.

What is the going price on these?

What LFS do you go to? I live in Near Dubois,PA and I'm always looking for better reef stores than Elmers in Monroeville.

It up to you, to build a 30 oceanic into a reef ready-selfcontained unit would be $200 without lighting(if you can DIY).

Would you translate that second paragraph into English for us? :)

That's not so bad ... a LFS near me was asking 399.

It's a nice looking tank, I really like the display dimensions.
It could still use better flow however.

I saw site selling for 275. Its nice to have that extra 5 gallons over the 24 nano but I expect that the biocube will need to be modded to kick it up a notch like the nano and aquapod. You would want to put a stronger pump in, off the wet dry and look to create a macro fuge. I just want to see one just to see if the quality is better than the two main brands and if the filter setup is an improvement in any way.
It seems like if the manufacturers were paying attention to all the mods that people make with nano and aquapod, they would come out with a far better filtration system with nice big fuge etc. How much would it cost the companies to also kick up the pump size as well to increase flow? Very little. Issue: biotope at its three sizes gives us a little more gallonage with good pc lighting. Is the filtration system any better than Nano or Aquapod?

I too was able to see a 29 gallon Oceanic just out of the box. It seems to be quite a step up from the Aqua Pod...and I love mine.
Any way, instead of it being acrylic it is regular glass. I also read the warranty. It comes with a 1 year against all defects and 2 year against leakage or cracks. Now I wish I had waited to purchase the Oceanic. Maybe I can talk me husband into a fifth tank...lol

joedirt54...I don't know if you've ever taken a ride out to Wet Pets and Friends in McMurray PA. It's on route 19 just before Donaldson Crossroads heading towards Washington PA. It's a very nice store.

In what way is it a "step up" other than extra gallonage? Nano and Aquapod are both glass. Warranties are nice but how does the standard filtration compare with Nano and Aquapod? That is the issue. There is also the Finnex M-tank line which is also nice and has a built in skimmer in the filtration area.

noschmo...I believe the Aquapod is acrylic...at least mine does not feel like glass. As far as filtration, I'm sure there is always room for mods. I'm talking over all construction. I was only able to check it out for a few minutes. I will try to look at it more closely when I go into work today.

This is the first that I have been told the aquapod is acylic but in any event, let us know what else you find. I will likely get the 29 gallon although I have not seen any tanks yet in LFS'd on the west coast. :)

Unless they've discovered some inexpensive method to seamlessly bond glass with acrylic, the Aquapod is glass. From Current's website,

"The modern style compliments and decor and features seamless front rounded glass corners for optimum viewing."

..the aquapods are glass. I agree about adding more flow. With each of the "all in ones" flow is probably the thing that could be improved across the board.

You guys are right. The pod is glass I guess I must have been thinking of the Eclipse. I had one of those a while back. It leaked after about a year. And there I have been so careful not to scratch it.
Thanks

It was elmers.

Auntie: You are O.K. That said, I am looking forward to locating a 29 gallon at 250. which would make it more comparable to Nano 24 pricing.
