I paid $250 for my 29 gallon Biocube at a LFS. I also bought the stand for $130. There is no skimmer. Its basically Bio-balls, and your basic carbon filter insert. Depending on the month, i replace the filter cartridge once a week or once every 2 weeks. I do a 5 gallon water change with RO/DI water once a week. I have approximately 33lbs of live rock. One peice is about 9lbs and has a bunch of macro algae on it, but personally i think it looks really nice. Some don't like the macro in the main tank.
Either way with that for filtering, my nitrates stay between 0-5 and the phos is between 0-0.3. Never had any algae outbreaks and maybe have to use a magnet scrubber on the sides every few days, but no real big deal.
That is with a maroon clow, a royal gramma, and a lawn mower blenny. I also have a rock with 8 or so mushrooms and some star polyps.
