Oceanic Bowfront Leaking!!!

I awoke this morning to a drip drip, and upon further inspection found water coming out of the black plastic trim piece on the bottom front of the tank. I didnt have time to do any investigating I just threw a bucket under it. Could it be possible that my seal on the bottom front of the tank has lost its integrity. The tank has only been set up for a year, and its on the factory stand. I dont have any other ideas where the water would be coming from.
Also if the seam is the problem does anyone know if Oceanic will stand behind their product?

I have an oceanic bowfront, and have noted that if water gets under the top rim, it's good about running down later and making you wonder where it came from: but if it's a lot of water or a steady drip, that's not good. Apply a spirit level to the top of the tank. Water will run to a lowest corner, and if that's what's going on, it could be, heaven help you, originating at the rear, which probably has the most stress on it.

If you can contact the lfs that sold it, they may have a notion what to do next...though if I had any question about the integrity of a seam [been there] I'd move very fast.
 
If it were a seam, would the drip rate start increasing before a catostrophic failure or would it be drip drip...tidal wave?
 
I am guessing that the rate would increase, but when it opens, it opens, and it has already 'increased' enough for you to notice it. Unlike eroding dams, which pull out part of the rock and footing, an aquarium leak generally widens from pressure/pull elsewhere, and gradually gives wider...but what happens next depends on whether there is another weakened 'pocket' of bad seam nearby.

You could try the paper towel method of searching for the leak---rub the seams until you get a positive area, but the way the dark frame carries water, this is iffy.

If it were mine, I'd float a loan to replace it much faster, and then try to get the lfs to trade for equipment if you were successful in getting a replacement tank. I've never had one go catastrophic: I have had the whole tank bow. They do stop leaking when they reach the area of the split and empty the water all out to that level, and I've had that happen, but this is really scary territory, since it's most likely below midlevel, in the nature of leaks.

My advice would be get the tank you want if you have to float a loan, then try to horsetrade if you get it replaced under warranty.
 
Oceanic stands behind there tanks very very well. Atleast in my case. As long as you have original receipt for tank and stand. I am sure they have a 46 in stock and as lond as Oceanic lets the store know you have one coming the store will probably give you one on the spot.
 
Had the same thing happen to my 46g bow. Was fine for two years then I awoke to a wet floor. The left rear vertical seam had given way. Called oceanic and described to them my situation. I had moved out of the area where I bought the tank. They called around the local shops trying to find me a tank and eventually just sent one to the closest store because nobody had one in stock. Brought in the old tank and a copy of the reciept, no questions asked.
 
WELL THE FINAL WORD FROM OCEANIC IS THEY HAVE A 5YR WARRANTY WHICH MY TANK QUALIFIES FOR, BUT I HAVE TO HAVE A RECIEPT TO PROVE DATE OF PURCHASE.....THE FISH STORE I BOUGHT THE TANK FROM DOESNT KEEP RECORDS, AND THE CHANCES OF ME FINDING MY RECIEPT ARE SLIM. SO I GUESS IM UP A CREEK....
 
Look on the inside top of the tank around the lip. (Youll obvisoully have to drain it) it should have a manufacturers date on it. If that date is less than 5 years old, and your LFS will vouch that you did indeed by it from them new, I would try that approach.
 
Well SirSmapty, that is the most frustrating part, i am building a new house that will have an inwall 300ish gallon, but that wont be till the end of december. The only good news is that for the time being my tank has mysteriously stopped leaking (im guessing it got plugged with debris, so maybe itll hold for now)

ShaneV- where would the mfg date be located? front, back, sides, how far down from the lip?

Is there a chance that you paid with a credit card. If you did, maybe check the statement to see how it was billed, it may have been itemized on the bill, or if it at least shows the store name and the amount of the purchase the store may stand behind you.
