oceanic tank question

i have a concern and need to touch out to you guys on a copper question. i remember reading that a copper based tank will have a blue silicone look to it. just traded a 58 gallon oceanic with someone and it have blue/green silicone but 2 things are weird is that it is predrilled and the silicone on the upper banding is also blue and the back glass is tinted. the tinting part is not uncommon from oceanic but the silicone is. i can't tell if it's been resealed and the previous owner won't know. so just need to know before setting up. thanks for the info. this is something i have no clue about.

You can get some of these and place them in the tank to see if there is copper present. I am a firm believer that a copper exposed tank is TRASH. No sense in starting out with a potential problem.

i thought you were the one that said that the copper can ko a tank. i'll try the polypad and check in a couple of days. thanks for chiming in.

What is the age of the tank? I know older oceanics (like my 125) have blue'ish silicone and now most of the new ones have the black. The date label should be just under the trim lip at the top on the center.

Hey Joe,
How about filling it with water and running it for a few days then borrow my copper test kit and see if there is any leeching. BTW the tank at Royal Oak is an older Oceanic and has the same look now that you mentioned it to me. Also the date code is ink stamped just under the banding on either end, this one happens to be from 1991.

cool guys this one was built in 93 i thing. it's hard to see. i was sent a link by a tampa person and according to the chemist guy over there is i fill it with vingear the acid will get rid of the copper if any is in there. george i might swing by tonight and get it just to make sure. also want to pick your brain aabout stand issues. thanks guys.
