Oceanic Tanks

the AGA plumbing for the overflow sucks in my opinion...i just got the standard durso in mine...i got it after returning the original megaflow plumbing.

dont get me wrong - i love the megaflow tank - just not the plumbing that they give ya

Does the oceanic have better glass than the AGA? Maybe it has low iron type glass that the AGA doesn't have?

These are the differences I know about (not exhaustive list!):
-thicker glass (1/2" thick on those sizes I think)
-beveled edges (AGA edges are sharp!)
-silicone under lip of tank to prevent salt creep

These were explained to me when I was choosing my 120 RR at the LFS. I went with the oceanic because it had nice custom corner overflows in it.

Oceanic is owned by AGA but is run on there own. Oceanic is a better tank, more attention to detail, workmanship and materal. They both hold water. Tempered glass is used on some bottoms rearly on sides. Tempered glass is cheaper to use on bottoms because it stonger and they can use a thinner piece of glass. Thicker glass is more expensive then thinner tempered glass. If your bottom is thick glass then it is most likely not tempered. Most Oceanic larger tanks do not have tempered glass. Do not think just because a tank is drilled it is not tempered because they could have drilled the glass before it was tempered.

for those that have never seen oceanic, or the two side by side, find one if you can.

if you will have the trim exposed there is simply no contest, unless you dont care for aesthetics.

its like a euroreef and asm skimmer. both perform well, but the euro reef is so much nicer to look at and made with better materials. the things is, that there is no need to stare at a skimmer, unless you have that fetish.

but the looks of a fish tank plays a major role, as you HAVE to look at it. it is in between you and your reef.

as far as size goes, most of the smaller tanks will be about the same thickness, but with the larger sizes you will start to see a difference. but, other than the "wow that glass is thick" feel, not sure what it does for the long term integrity of the tank, ala euroreef.

but in the end, it is by far much nicer to look at and i agree is easily worth the extra price of a bucket of salt

but dont take it from me or others, go take a look for yourself.

i just ordered a Oceanic 75 gal RR for about $340.. the reef ready comes drilled from the factory with the megaflow overflow... I had an oceanview for about a month which just cracked... never go cheap again... my top was level and touched everywhere... hope they replace it so I can sell it.

i have had both aga and oceanic. the aga glass had an almost green look to it. My oceanic has a nice clear color, and uses clear silicon. The trim is also much nicer. Now i dont know for sure, but my aga glass seemed to scratch easier than my oceanic.

Oceanic sounds like a winner.

Do any of the new Oceanics have the overflow box in the corner, or are they all out along the back wall from the left corner like the AGAs?

You can have them place where you want them. Also I know with Oceanic you could have as many holes as you want drilled in a tank that you order for only fifty dollars more. That's why my LFS want some customers to special order them and know where you want the holes so they can be drilled by Oceanic, which is sweet. Save customer some money and LFS some time. Also, it doesn't void the warranty with Oceanic drilling the holes. Plus if you buy an Oceanic stand you get a five year warranty on the tank.
