ocellaris variants

Do ocellaris variants know they're variants? As in, will a black and white not pair or get along with a standard ocellaris as readily as 2 of the same color variation do? I'm considering getting 1-2 of each for my next tank build and am curious if they'll get along favorably.

all the same, a black and white will pair with a normal. Snowflake pair with black and white, etc. etc. Same species different color. I highly doubt they know what color they are themselves.

That's what makes a species a species, that variants reproduce and have viable young.

Looks aren't that important biologically. My sister, the biology professor, tells me that appearance is an inaccurate way to determine a species

I have a black and white osc. I'm pairing with a true perc. He seems kind of dopey and afraid of my female so far but he's getting there. I think he was juvenile and non sexed and the bonding will happen when he grows into his sex. She doesn't seem to mind him and is curious. Somehow they can tell that it'll work
