Hi my G/F has had this octopus for about 3 months.
The octo is tiny (the mantle is about the size of a susan B anthony dollar coin). I have never seen an octo like this.
First off its fully and totally nocturnal. The critters stay hidden during all hints of light.
Second they body is ruffled, it has multiple ruffling along the sides of the mantle, and a light ruffling along each tentecle. The coloration of the animal is mottled brownish red, when it get ticked off-solid black. The octo spooks easily and is very quick to ink. If i wait til the lights are out and i see it crawling up the sides of the tank and sudden flip on the lights, it inks immdiately, turns black and rushes into its hole.

Whats weird w/ this critter is how it sits, it sits w/ two of its tentecles folded up between its eyes forming 2 V shapes so each eye can peer out of the middle of each V. The remaining tentecles are pulled back and up so none of its body shows (all you see is suckers). the animal prefers to remain oriented rightside up (mouth facing down) w/ its tentecles suspending it from the roof of its cave or clam shell.
The octo eats well, it feeds totally on Sw ghost shrimp and will eat 4 or 5 every few days
Any guesses
thanks

Can you post a pic? Sounds awesome. :smokin:

If you sneak up (with the lights out) and use a flash, it may work. Otherwise, just use a red light. We wouldn't see good color, but I'm very curious.

The posture you describe is typical of several dwarf species that live in cavities. They often sit just inside the entrance using the arms to partially cover the eyes.

Bocki rarely looks reddish. If it is Indo-Pacific, it could be wolfi.
Are the arms fairly short and stock?
